About us

Turning an idea into a product

Most good ideas do not fail because of the idea. They fail at what comes next: the drawing, the first sample, the question of who would even build such a thing. That is where we come in.

Jucama is a small group of three founders and a network that grew over time. We develop products, design them on the computer, build prototypes and see them through to market – and we write the software when software is needed.

What sets us apart from a pure design shop is what stands behind us: people from film and television production, designers, specialists in reach and audience, plus the suppliers we work with ourselves. In the end a product needs more than a drawing. It needs a picture, a name, and someone to tell its story.

We work with people who have an idea and do not know what the next step looks like. Sometimes that is a sketch on a sheet of paper. Sometimes it is a device that has been sitting in someone's workshop for years, never quite finished. The path is different every time. The questions are surprisingly often the same.

What we take on

Individually or as continuous support – depending on where you stand.

CAD

Engineering

A sketch becomes a model, and the model becomes manufacturing documentation. We design so the part can actually be made – not just so it looks good on screen.

From model to sample

Prototyping

The first tangible piece. In a week it reveals what a drawing will not show in a year: whether the thing feels right, whether it handles well, whether something breaks.

Electronics and programming

Software

When a product needs electronics, we write the firmware to go with it – and the desktop software, if there should be one.

From our network

Marketing and promotion

Photography, copy, film, reach. We work with people from film and television production, with designers and with specialists in audience reach.

Patent filing

Intellectual property

We have been through a patent filing ourselves and know what matters. We do not act as your legal representative – we prepare the ground and accompany you.

The founders

Three names, one word: Julian, Carsten, Markus.

I trained as an automotive technician – but at some point, the drive to create things took over. I taught myself CAD design, 3D printing, and product development from there – learning by doing, trying a lot, getting a lot wrong, until it finally clicked. That mix of craftsmanship and technology is still how I approach every new project today. I've also completed training as a certified social and vocational educator.
Today I'm one of the founders of JUCAMA, where alongside management I'm responsible for construction and product development.
What drives me most is a love of innovation: I love solving problems and making things better step by step – until, all of a sudden, an idea becomes something real you can hold in your hand or see in front of you. Make something of it.
"There's no such thing as can't – and if there is, I'll make it possible."

People, communication, and creative solutions – those are the things that drive me. After training at a public relations agency as well as in offset, flat-bed, and screen printing, it quickly became clear to me: I didn't just want to design products, I wanted to bring people together.
At JUCAMA, I'm the interface between our customers and production. I accompany projects from the first idea through to the finished result, and I also handle advertising, marketing, and public relations.
I firmly believe there's a solution to every challenge. That's why my personal motto is:
"For us, there are no problems – only solutions."
And when the road gets rocky, one thought keeps me going:
"When you've reached the halfway point up the mountain and it starts getting harder, don't give up. Look back and see how far you've already come."

I keep an eye on what's happening in the world, and I rarely take things at face value. When one of the others shows up with an idea, I listen first – then say honestly what I think of it. Usually that's more points than the person hoped to hear.
I don't trust cloud services as a rule: too many security holes, too much blind faith. My IT background runs deep enough that I'd rather build something myself than buy in off the shelf, if it ends up safer that way.
For the developers on the team, that often means more work before an idea becomes a finished product. For the product itself, it usually means: it holds up to what it promises.
